Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of Azerbaijan

Hikmat Hajiyev is the Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan – Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan since November 2019.  

Previously he served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and started his diplomatic career from the arms-control and political-military divisions of MFA. In 2003 he was posted to the Mission of Azerbaijan to NATO. Between 2008 and 2009 he served at the UN and International Security Departments of the Foreign Ministry. In 2009 he was posted to the Embassy of Azerbaijan to the State of Kuwait and in 2010 he was transferred to the Embassy of Azerbaijan to Egypt. He was the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2014 until 2018. In November of 2018 he was appointed as the Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration and served in this capacity until being promoted to the position of Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan.  

Hikmat Hajiyev graduated with bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Baku State University, Department of International Relations and International Law. Then he continued his education at the NATO Defence College and Université Libre de Bruxelles.  

He is married and has two kids.
