Deputy Regional Director Europe and Central Asia, UNICEF

Mr. Philippe Cori has been appointed in July 2018 as Deputy Regional Director of UNICEF Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia (ECARO). Prior to this appointment Mr. Cori was the Deputy Regional Director of UNICEF Regional Office for South Asia (ROSA) from April 2015 to June 2018.

He worked as the Director of the UNICEF’s EU Partnership Office in Brussels over 7 years, which was orchestrating the UNICEF’s relationships and partnership with the European Institutions particularly the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Committee of the Regions and the European Council with a view to influence and contribute to EU policies particularly in key areas such as Nutrition, Health, Education, Protection, Gender, Disability, Poverty Eradication and humanitarian Assistance. This partnership also aimed at mobilizing and leveraging quality resources for the realization of children’s rights everywhere and especially the most disadvantaged.

He had also been serving UNICEF as Senior Adviser for Global Public-Private Partnerships and for International Finance Institutions cooperation at UNICEF’s Headquarters in New York since May 2005. In this capacity, he was responsible for providing strategic leadership and guidance in building alliances for UNICEF’s involvement in Public-Private partnerships in health and nutrition such as GAVI (Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunization), GFATM (Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis, and Malaria) and GAIN (Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition) or with Global Foundations such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, with International Financial Institutions such as the World Bank and the African Development Bank. He also led UNICEF’s partnerships with Emerging donor countries particularly Gulf countries and UNICEF’s engagement with Multi Donor Trust Funds for humanitarian action and post-conflict situations and with United Nation Funds, Programs and Specialized Agencies while promoting a Deliver as One UN approach and implementing the Paris Declaration Principles.

Mr. Cori joined UNICEF in 1989 and served UNICEF in various capacities to support UNICEF’s partnerships strategies with the private sector for the realization of children rights in policy influencing, in social and resource mobilization and branding strategies in support of UNICEF’s programs in some 20 countries in Europe with UNICEF National Committees while working with the Public Affairs Office and then Private Sector Division in Geneva, and in some 60 countries in the Middle East, Africa and Asia with UNICEF Country Offices while working with the Private Sector Division and with UNICEF’s East Asia and Pacific Regional Office in Bangkok, Thailand.

Mr. Philippe Cori is a national of France. He holds a PhD in Brand Development strategy for World Heritage and poverty eradication with the University of Silpakorn in Bangkok, Thailand. He obtained a Master Degree in Business Administration from the Ecole Superieure de Commerce of Rouen, France and a Master Degree in History of Art from the University of Lille, France. He studied Political Sciences and International Affairs at the University of Sorbonne in Paris, France and holds a Post-Graduate degree in Evaluation Techniques in Education from the University of Geneva, Switzerland.
