Ambassador Andrej Benedejčič is the State Secretary for National and International Security in the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia since June 2022. In this function, he also serves as the Head of the Secretariat of the Slovenian National Security Council. Previously, he was the Special Envoy of the Slovenian Foreign Minister for Arms Control, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation. He was also the Permanent Representative of Slovenia to the UN, OSCE and other International Organizations in Vienna, as well as the Permanent Representative of Slovenia to NATO in Brussels. He also served as the Slovenian Ambassador to the Russian Federation in Moscow. Ambassador Benedejčič chaired the General Working Group of the Wassenaar Arrangement on Export Controls for Conventional Arms and Dual-Use Goods and Technologies, the Open Skies Consultative Commission, and the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation. He was also the Governor of the Republic of Slovenia in the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency. He graduated from Harvard University and holds a PhD from the University of Ljubljana.
