Michal Šimečka has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2019 and one of its Vice-Presidents. His responsibilities as the Parliament’s Vice-President include Democracy and Human Rights, the European Parliament Research Service and the Delegation to the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Association Committee, while being a member of the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality and Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs. He is also the Party Leader of Progresivne Slovensko. He has previously worked as a senior researcher at the Institute of International Relations in Prague, has served as an advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and has also worked as a journalist for the Slovak daily SME and the Financial Times. He holds a DPhil in political science and international relations from Oxford University.
